How does the LANAP® PerioLase treatment work?

Tartar is removed from the root surface of the tooth using an ultrasonic scaler and small instruments. Next, a small amount of light energy from the PerioLase laser is directed through a tiny fiber gently placed between the gum and tooth to remove a tiny amount of diseased gum tissue, reducing the bacteria associated with gum disease. After the area is thoroughly cleaned, the body will heal the area naturally.

How many treatments does it take?

This depends on the severity of your periodontal disease. In some cases one LANAP® session with two follow-up visits may be sufficient; more visits would be required for more severe cases. After an initial consultation and examination, your doctor will develop a treatment plan that includes your estimated treatment time.

Does LANAP® cost more than traditional gum surgery?

Factors that may impact your cost include the severity of your periodontal disease, and how many teeth are involved.

Many insurance plans pay only for a portion of this treatment. Please discuss your payment options with our dental office personnel.
