PerioExam

Your First Visit

We are excited to welcome you to our practice! When you come to our office for your initial consultation visit, a thorough examination will be performed to determine the health of your gums. After the examination, we will discuss all your treatment options and answer any questions you may have.

A comprehensive periodontal examination evaluates:

      • Color, texture, consistency of your gums
      • Pocket (space between your teeth and gum) measurements
      • Gum recession
      • Missing or loose teeth
      • Problems with existing fillings, crowns, bridges, or implants
      • Oral cancer screening

 X-rays

X-rays may also be required as part of your initial consultation to provide an accurate diagnosis. The x-rays will show us the extent and pattern of bone loss around each tooth.

Periodontal Probing

Periodontal probing helps us to determine the severity of your periodontal disease and plan an appropriate treatment. Probing measures the depth of the pockets around each tooth; it can also reveal receding gums, exposed roots, tooth grinding and other problems.

A probe is like a tiny ruler that is gently inserted into the space between your tooth and gum. The deeper the probe goes, the deeper the pocket and the more severe the periodontal disease.
